Baby Soft Skin

The baby’s skin is more sensitive than adults. It is prone to some irritations that may cause rashes and other skin diseases. Babies unlike adults sweat less efficient than us, so it is unlikely for the babies to maintain their inner body temperature. We all know that babies can’t talk and they only interact when they want to say something only by crying or being irritated of something else.

Prior to these here are some minor skin conditions that are easily managed and some points to ponder to minimize baby skin irritations:

Chafing: It is a skin irritation caused by friction between baby’s clothing and skin. It can also develop whenever area of skin is often rubbed together.

Avoid or minimize rubber pants and tight clothing that cause this. Cleanse and dry the skin thoroughly then apply appropriate baby cream and cornstarch baby powder to affected areas.

Heat Rash: The irritated skin is caused by the baby’s undeveloped sweat glands and also by natural heat and humidity. This results small pinks rashes across the body.

It can be avoided by keeping the baby’s clothing loose and do not overdress as much as possible. Bathing regularly is advised especially in hot countries like here in the Philippines.

Cradle Cap: Most of the babies develop crusty patches on scalp a couple of weeks after delivery. This is caused by overactive glands in your baby’s scalp.

You can remove this by gently wiping the baby’s scalp with baby oil after bathing. Repeat same procedure until cradle cap is removed.

These skin irritations are usually developed in baby’s skin up to six months. The keyword is cleanliness. Change beddings everyday as much as possible.  If severe conditions develop better consult your Pediatrician for professional advice.

I try to treat my baby with a healthy bath so that he can have a baby smooth skin as much as possible. I do prepare 3 pcs. Of calamansi quarterly sliced and leave it in a pail of lukewarm water for 5 minutes. I dilute 1 table spoon of Lactacyd (the blue one for the skin). I do this every day before 10 am in the morning. If the weather is hot, I repeat the same procedure before my baby goes to sleep. You can try it yourself also! Moms like is also entitled to have a smooth and fair skin like our baby’s. Have fun bathing!
